Moving Forward
Leaving the house this morning on my way to the church office I noticed our next-door neighbor had her garage filled with boxes. She is moving. She is a school teacher and instead of enjoying her time off and relaxing this summer, she is very busy. In fact, she was busy preparing for her move even before school let out. This put me to thinking about all the trouble it is to move. It is no wonder that we tend to be stagnant in areas of our lives. When we get to a place that is comfortable we just want to stay there. In fact, many times we settle for much less than comfort. We will settle for something familiar even if it is a bit uncomfortable. At least we know what to expect. Often it takes a strong push of some kind to get us to make a move. This is true spiritually as well as physically and it is true for individuals as well as the church.
Those who took part in the Tuesday evening study of "Experiencing God" and those who went on our recent retreat got "pushed" to move toward spiritual maturity. We as a church got a big "push" toward prayer and radical commitment when we faced a severe financial crisis last September.
"Pushes", although necessary at times to get us to move, are not comfortable and are not what God wants to motivate us to move forward in ministry personally or as a church body. God much prefers us to seek and take His direction and to walk along with Jesus as the Spirit of God guides us. This means that now that God has us moving, he wants us to continue to walk with Him! We need to fight the urge to
settle in and get comfortable and stagnant where we are. What we call comfort zones are not nearly as meaningful or beneficial to us or to others as is "walking in the Spirit".
We have the opportunity to continue maturing in Christ as we worship, study and work together. We will especially mature as we minister together as God leads and His Holy Spirit empowers us. Together we can continue to move forward as a church through the expanded ministries God is providing, both the Spanish language ministry and opportunities in Ministry with Children. Please pray and ask God how He wants you to get involved. It is God’s desire that we keep moving and maturing. Moving is work but it can take us to exciting new places and the journey with God as our guide is wonderful. Remember you cannot stay where you are and go with God.
Let’s move forward together!

Come help spruce up God’s property here at First Baptist. This will be a great time for all of us to work side-by-side and to improve the church facilities in the process.
Please bring any supplies and tools you can use. We will need to dust and clean inside, polish the furniture, wash windows, clean the kitchen, possibly change out some light fixtures, power wash some areas outside and do a lot of gardening. You can fit in and do what you feel good about doing - no pressure.
